Athletic and Kinesio Taping

Brenna’s training as a gymnast introduced her to athletic taping at a young age.  She furthered her experience at York University in her pursuit of becoming a Certified Athletic Therapist; she worked with varied sports requiring different taping techniques with unique requirements.  Brenna has gained experience including but not limited to using tape to stabilize joints for sports that do not allow braces, using specific types of tape for water sports and different climates, knowledge of when to use particular types of tape for different injuries and awareness of when judged sports require skin coloured tape in order to not affect the athlete’s scores. Most importantly however, knowledge of both the sport and the injury is vital to the success of the effectiveness of tape to prevent further injury during sport.

Brenna has been utilizing elastic tape to assist muscular injuries well before the invention of Kinesiotape. Kinesiotape, however, provides not only brighter colours but it also better assists with swelling and is longer lasting. Kinesiotaping provides support and stability to joints and muscles during movement during full range of motion which allows tissues to perform tasks with the assistance of the tape without decreasing the risk of greater injury, this is especially helpful in sporting scenarios. It assists with pain through providing tactile feedback, it can assist movement with biofeedback, it often improves range of motion, and has been shown to assist with swelling. Brenna has combined her previous experience with her new Kinesiotaping KT1 & KT2 skills to assist many clients achieve their goals in a timely manner using Kinesiotape.
